Nick Quinn: Expert tips and betting analysis for this weekend’s feature races

Punting guru Nick Quinn is tipping Begood Toya Mother to bounce back in a big way at Caulfield, while punters should be wary of Godolphin’s Osborne Bulls at Randwick.

TAB form expert Nick Quinn casts his eye over the feature races at Caulfield and Randwick on Saturday.

VALUE BET: Osborne Bulls (Randwick, Race 6, No.4)

CAULFIELD

RACE 6: FOUNDATION CUP (2000m)

The winning connections will feel like Charlie Bucket, with the winner of this race earning a golden ticket into the Caulfield Cup. The early favourite is Super Titus on the back of a strong win at Caulfield last start. He opened $5 and has firmed into $4.50 and looks the best of the four stable representatives. There has been early each-way support for the Waterhouse-Bott trained Wolfe. Wolfe opened $7.50 and has firmed into $5.50. He is a progressive staying type who has won five of his seven career starts and looks the likely leader in a race without a huge amount of speed.

SUGGESTED BET: WOLFE each-way.

LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS

RACE 7: SIR RUPERT CLARKE STAKES (1400m)

Punters are warming to the runners down in the weights when assessing a magnificent edition of the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. The Daniel Bowman-trained Begood Toya Mother had his six-race winning streak broken last start but lost no admirers when running sixth in the Memsie Stakes. Begood Toya Mother drops seven kilos from that run and, importantly, has also drawn a better gate. Bookmakers posted him at $5 on Monday on the back of the nominations and he was well supported at that quote. He reopened $3.90 after the barrier draw and has firmed to $3.70. I expect Begood Toya Mother will be the runner to beat, but I have him assessed at about $4, which you should be able to secure on race day. The best winning chance at double-figure odds and main danger to Begood Toya Mother is Age Of Chivalry. Age Of Chivalry has won his past two starts and will carry just 52kg from gate one. At $11, he looks over the odds. TAB’s Trent Langskaill reported good early money for Amphitrite, who opened $8.50 and is now into $7, including one bet of $1000 at $8.

SUGGESTED BET: BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER to win.

RANDWICK

RACE 6: THE SHORTS (1100m)

What a cracking race that will help shape the look and market for The Everest. When markets opened on Monday, Classique Legend and Pierata opened $5 joint market leaders. They have both firmed since, with Classique Legend now at $4 and Pierata $4.60. The runner I am keen on is Osborne Bulls. He has been frustrating for his backers, having finished second in all five runs last campaign. He has a tremendous turn of foot and this race will be run at a tempo that will see him get a chance to run into the finish. I would suggest staking more the place than the win, but if he is going to be a contender for the Everest, he needs to put in a bold performance against a field that is mostly heading that way. Redzel won this race in 2017 and is again worth entertaining. He has been backed from $6 into $5, including one bet of $1500 at $6.

SUGGESTED BET: OSBORNE BULLS each-way.

RACE 7: GEORGE MAIN STAKES (1600m)

Winx has won this race the last three years, but this year’s edition is much more open. Avilius has been costly this campaign after being beaten at both runs when a well backed favourite. Punters are lukewarm on him early doors. He has eased from $2.80 to $3.40. If you fancy him then be patient as I expect you will get close to $4 on race day. The early money has been for the Hawkes-trained Dreamforce, who has been backed from $11 into $4.80. Dreamforce resumed from a spell with a win over Te Akau Shark in the Tramway Stakes and is a leading contender for the Epsom Handicap. At longer odds, there has been early specking for Youngstar, who has been $41 into $31.

SUGGESTED BET: DREAMFORCE each-way.
