Nick Quinn: Expert tips and betting analysis for feature races at Caulfield and Rosehill

Punting guru Nick Quinn is banking on Jungle Edge’s racing fitness coming to the fore when he comes up against Team Hawkes runner and favourite Sesar in the Bletchingly Stakes.

Sky Racing 24-07

TAB form expert Nick Quinn casts his eye over the main races at Caulfield and Rosehill on Saturday in search of a winner.

QUINNY’S THREE TO WATCH

BEST BET: True Detective (Rosehill R1, No. 1)

VALUE BET: Prime Candidate (Rosehill R9, No. 7)

LAY OF THE WEEK: Delectation (Rosehill R8, No. 1)

CAULFIELD

BLETCHINGLY STAKES R8, 4.20pm

An even edition of the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes which changed face with the news that Mystic Journey would not accept due to the wet track.

Punters face a dilemma at this time of year — do you back the best horse in the race, who is taking the first step up a big mountain with the main target later in spring.

Or do you back a runner like Jungle Edge, who mightn’t have the class but is rock hard fit and be suited by the sting out of the track.

Jungle Edge has opened $4.60 second elect.

The early favourite is Hawkes-trained Sesar, who returned from a spell with a dominant win at Randwick on June 22.

Sesar is a classy colt and does have the advantage of a run under the belt heading into the race on Saturday.

He has opened $1.85 which does look a tad skinny and I anticipate you’ll get better on race day.

THE TIP: JUNGLE EDGE win

Mudlark Jungle Edge will appreciate the wet conditions again.

MORPHETTVILLE

LIGHTING STAKES R7, 4.01pm

A strong edition of the Lightning Stakes with some nice emerging sprinters in action.

Behemoth hasn’t won a race in 2019 but he’s run some great races including running a second in the Group 1 Goodwood.

He tuned up for his return winning a recent trial and after being posted a $3.80 favourite has already come in for early support firming to $2.90.

TAB’s chief media officer Trent Langskaill reported an early bet of $500 each-way on Behemoth at $3.40 the win and $1.60 the place.

The runner that I anticipate will run well is the Patrick Payne-trained Zizziz who opened $7.50.

THE TIP: ZIZZIZ each-way

ROSEHILL

CHARITY FOUNDATION HANDICAP R1, 11.40am

This looks a good opportunity for punters to build a bank with the first favourite on the program True Detective.

True Detective won well on debut at Rosehill in February and resumed from a spell with a narrow defeat.

He has Hugh Bowman in the saddle and with class and race experience on his side will be popular with punters.

There has been early support for the Mark Newnham-trained Exceed The Stars including $500 each-way at $11 and $2.80 the place.

THE TIP: TRUE DETECTIVE win

WINTER CHALLENGE HANDICAP R7, 3.20pm

An open edition of the winter challenge with the early money coming for one of the Chris Waller-trained runners Eckstein.

Eckstein opened a $6.50 favourite and has already been backed into $4.80 with support continuing for her at that quote.

Eckstein won well last start and should continue to attract support between now and race time.

Stablemate Seaway is the runner who I anticipate can run a big race at nice each-way odds.

THE TIP: SEAWAY each-way

PACIFIC BOATING HANDICAP R9, 4.40pm

My best longshot comes up here in the form of Prime Candidate from the Bjorn Baker stable.

Prime Candidate opened a $10 chance with one early bet of $1000 at that price, seeing his price trim into $9.

Prime Candidate is first-up from a spell having won all three starts last preparation and four of five career starts.

The deserving favourite is Greyworm from the Hawkes stable who is first-up from a spell after a good summer campaign that included a Moonee Valley win.

THE TIP: PRIME CANDIDATE each-way
