Here’s everything you need to know after the big day including the starting time, how to get to the track and what to wear.
DATE
The Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at Flemington Racecourse.
GATE OPENING TIMES
Gate opens at 8.30am.
First race begins at 11am and the last race is at 5.15pm.
RACE START TIME
The Melbourne Cup race begins at 3pm AEST.
Brisbane time: 2pm
Adelaide time: 2.30pm
Perth time: 12pm
Darwin time: 1.30pm

WHAT IS THE PRIZE MONEY?
The total prize money for the 2019 Melbourne Cup is $8 million.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?
Ladies (Including children 12 and over)
Ladies are expected to maintain a suitable dress standard in keeping
with the distinction of the Members Enclosure
Gentleman (Including children 12 and over)
Gentlemen are required to wear a suit, or tailored slacks (tailored chinos
are acceptable) and sports coat or blazer, plus tie or bow tie and dress
shoes.
Not Permitted
Any variation of a runner including joggers, rubber thongs, sandals, dilapidated footwear, scuffs, gumboots or slippers.
Denim clothing, jeans, jodhpurs, polo shirts, parkas, windbreakers, tracksuits, jackets including bomber jackets, duffel coats, untailored leather jackets, peaked caps, beanies, sporting guernseys, any clothing revealing excessive bare midriff.
HOW TO GET TO FLEMINGTON RACECOURSE
Trains
On Tuesday, November 5, services will run to a Saturday timetable.
There will be 300 additional train services operating from Flinders Street to Flemington Racecourse.
From 8.30am, there will be trains every 15 minutes between 8.30am and 9.30am and every 6 to 7 minutes between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
Coming home, trains will leave Flemington every 4 minutes between 3.40pm and 7pm with the last train at 8.50pm.
Trams
Services will run to a Saturday timetable.
There will be extra services on Route 57 from Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street to Flemington Racecourse from 9am to 8.30pm.
Bus
Services will run to a Saturday timetable.

Members’ parking
Centre car park opens at 7.30am
Limited public carparking is available in the centre car park for $20. Enter off Smithfield Road at the Stables Drive entrance.
VCR members car parks
Members parking in the Unreserved Car Park must enter via Flemington Drive off Epsom Road.
