WELCOME to our live coverage of the Blue Diamond Stakes and Apollo Stakes day from Caulfield and Royal Randwick.
The Group 1 $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield this afternoon was billed as a two-horse race between Rubick and Earthquake but it the Darley filly made all the headlines as the scored a dominant win.
In one of the strongest Blue Diamond fields in years, Rubick set the pace as Earthquake came from the second-widest barrier and jockey Damian Browne found a nice position just off the speed.
As they turned into the straight, Earthquake drifted wide and showed that dazzling turn of foot to sweep past Rubick in just a couple of strides to run away with the Group 1 race.
Earthquake ($3) proved too strong but trainer Mick Price had cause for celebration as his two runners Jabali and Cornrow filled the minor placings.
In the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick, Appearance broke her second-up hoodoo to register back-to-back wins as favourite Boban again failed to flatter as he finished out of the placings.
And in sad news, Victoria Derby winner Polanski was taken from the track in an ambulance after injuring himself in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes, which was won by Melbourne Cup favourite Fiorente.
