Linda Meech becomes first Victorian female jockey to ride five winners at meeting

LINDA Meech had a day-out at Echuca, riding five winners including the four legs of the quaddie.

Meech had six rides for the day and finished second in the opening event before winning the second race on Magnesia and then the final four races - scoring on Sahara Night, Bernie Of Babylon, Auramour and Just Reminiscing.

The fourth winner Auramour was a late pick-up ride.

The Meech quaddie paid $1836.80.

According to the Miller's Guide, Meech is one of only a handful of female riders to have won five races and the first to do so in Victoria.

Champion Tasmanian rider Bev Buckingham rode five winners at Mowbray on November 29, 1986. Melissa Seagren rode six winners at Einasleigh, Queensland, in 2001.
