They breed them tough in Tassie.

Jockey Craig Newitt headed to The Valley to take his rides on Feehan Stakes day hours after getting home from the Ballarat Hospital after a serious car accident.

Newitt’s partner Brea had scans on a sore neck and back after the pair were involved in crash just outside Donald.

“I’m all right and Brea just had a bit of a sore neck and back, but we’ve pulled up a lot better this morning than we were last night,” Newitt said.

Newitt said the crash could have been a lot worse.

“It was horrendous,” Newitt said.

“It was a straight piece of road and a 19-year-old kid just pulled out in front of us. We were sitting on 100 (km/h) and he came out of a side lane.

“If Brea hadn’t swerved, we’d have hit the other car head-on and probably killed the other driver.

“He pretty much went straight into my door on the passenger side.

“Both cars are a write off. The airbags hurt – that’s what got me. The airbag.”

Newitt was thankful none of his four sons were in the car as the back half of the vehicle was severely damaged.

“It almost took the back end of the car clean off,” Newitt said.

“Thankfully, the kids weren’t in the car. If we did have them, one of them would be dead.”
