Last week … Two winners. Ray Thomas was on the money with the in-form Adelong ($2.80), while Nick Quinn kept his winning run going with Vanna Girl ($2.10).
The meetings: ROYAL RANDWICK (9 races, start 11.30am), DOOMBEN (9 races, 11.37am), FLEMINGTON (9 races, 11.45am), MORPHETTVILLE (9 races, 11.56am), BELMONT (9 races, 1.53pm).
ROYAL RANDWICK
RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 10101
KEEN POWER (Race 2, No. 5 — $3)
His near miss at Randwick last start was a tough watch for his backers as the sprinter got back in the ruck, had to change direction a couple of times in the straight before finishing fast. The step up to 1200m should be ideal. This is his chance.
Value bet: THREEOOD (Race 6, No. 9 — $3.60)
SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 3128s
SWEEPING STATEMENT (Race 6, No. 13 — $8)
Scored a barnstorming first-up win on the Kensington track, sweeping down the outside to win by almost two lengths. She seems to have no issue on rain-affected turf and you’d imagine that there are worse places to be than coming home fast and late down the middle on Saturday.
Value bet: PICARO (Race 8, No. 9 — $23)
DARREN PRENDERGAST (NewsRacing). Form: 13x77
SOUTHERN LAD (Race 5, No. 6 — $2.70)
Gave star sprinter Classique Legend a run for his money last start. Ready to peak fourth-up and step up to 1200m will suit.
Value bet: LONGBOTTOM (Race 3, No. 7 — $6.50)
LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS
FLEMINGTON
GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: 222s3
KING OF HASTINGS (Race 7, No. 1 — $3.10)
Powerful Golden Topaz win at Swan Hill and has a good soft track record, so should take a power of beating.
Value bet: VICTORIA STAR (Race 8, No. 17 — $7.50)
SIMON MOY (NewsRacing). Form: 2412x
ARTY LUCAS (Race 6, No. 8 — $3.80)
On the quick back-up again after dominant Ballarat performance. If the rain arrives looks a great chance.
Value bet: PINYIN (Race 5, No. 16 — $4.60)
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing). Form: 41x13
MAN OF PEACE (Race 1, No. 3 — $4)
The Sydney visitor is in career-best form since transferring to Matthew Dale. He led at a fast speed last start but held on for third on a swoops’ day. He just needs to travels fractionally slower to be hard to run down. The predicated rain will enhance his chances.
Value bet: CHAPADA (Race 6, No. 4 — $4.60)
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: s1211
KING OF HASTINGS (Race 7, No. 1 — $3.10)
He is building a nice race resume with four wins and four placings from 10 starts and should be in the finish.
Value bet: PARIANO (Race 5, No. 4 — $10)
LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS
EAGLE FARM
NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 12112
GARIBALDI (Race 8, No. 1 — $3.90)
Comes back from a couple of tilts at stakes grade, where he just came up short. Is asked to carry a hefty weight to break his run of outs, but offset by a soft draw, where he will enjoy a nice run behind and should have plenty to offer in the straight. Also see the drop back to 1200m as a plus.
Value bet: SPURCRAFT (Race 9, No. 2 — $6.50)
