The COVID crackdown at the Queensland border will make life tough for Sydney jockeys intending to ride at the summer carnival but Glen Boss’s circumstances are unique.

Glen Boss has secured a clearance from Queensland Health to allow him to ride at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Boss escaped the Sydney COVID dramas last Friday when firstly having a negative COVID test before flying to Queensland to ride on Saturday and then heading to Melbourne in the belief he would then be fine to return to Queensland to ride.

There had been doubts about the jockey returning to Brisbane for Boxing Day but Boss has secured a clearance from Queensland Government officials.

“I’ve got a border pass and I’m right to ride on Saturday,’’ Boss said. “I’m planning to stay in Queensland until after the Magic Millions.’’

Three-time Melbourne Cup winner Boss has another good book of rides at Eagle Farm, including boom three-year-old The Elanora in the Group 3 $250,000 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m).

“The Elanora does look like a nice horse,’’ Boss said.

“This doesn’t appear to be a strong race so if he brings his Sydney form to Brisbane, he should be able to put them away.’’

Boss also has the ride on Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace’s classy two-year-old filly and Gold Coast Magic Millions hopeful Fake Love in the $250,000 BJ McLachlan Stakes.

Meanwhile, the tougher border restrictions have already seen the cancellation of eight corporate table bookings at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Magic Millions Day on January 16.

However chairman Brett Cook said there was a long waiting list for tables on the day and those corporate cancellations had already been filled with new bookings.

The Turf Club is hopeful there will be no further restrictions on crowd numbers with COVID restrictions already capping the Magic Millions crowd numbers at 14,000-16,000 when there are usually about 24,000 there on the rich day.

There was positive news in NSW on Tuesday with a second day of low new COVID case numbers and record high testing rates.

The state recorded eight positive cases, seven of which were linked to the Avalon cluster on the northern beaches, which has now grown to 90.
