Daryl Braithwaite’s absence on Cox Plate Day didn’t go down well with fans as choir performs Horses

Daryl Braithwaite couldn’t make Cox Plate Day but racing officials decided his traditional pre-race tune didn’t have to go. But fans thought maybe it they would have been better off without it.

Aussie music legend Daryl Braithwaite wasn’t at The Valley to sing his Cox Plate anthem, Horses — and gee punters weren’t happy.

Braithwaite has been a hit at the annual meeting in recent years, performing his iconic tune to punters trackside and beaming back to millions across the country on television at home.

But with news last month Braithwaite had committed to perform at an event in Gosford, the Moonee Valley Racing Club had to get creative.

So while Braithwaite was a scratching, in came a choir.

And it left fans feeling flat.
