A ‘dial-in’ directions hearing has taken place in the criminal case of Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir.

Weir, assistant trainer Jarrod McLean and stablehand Tyson Kermond face charges relating to animal cruelty, conspiracy and weapons offences.

County Court head of circuits Judge Gerard Mullaly on Thursday plotted the course forward in the complex trial.

The defence response for Weir, McLean and Kermond will be held on February 26 ahead of the March 19 corrections hearing.

The matter will return to the County Court — the location to be fixed — on January 29.
