Ciaron Maher couldn’t be happier with the condition of his Group 1-winning stable recruits from the Darren Weir stable, Land Of Plenty and Voodoo Lad, before their feature races at Caulfield on Saturday.
Maher said the pair galloped at Terang last Tuesday under Weir’s supervision and then headed to his stables. Land Of Plenty will contest the Group 1 Orr Stakes and Voodoo Lad the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes.

“They are both trained at Warrnambool on the beach so when we got them we sent them straight to our beach facilities at Balnarring,” Maher said. “They had done their fast work down there and we’ve just freshened them up,”
Maher said Weir had sat down and talked him through the gallopers and their different traits.
“Land Of Plenty looks great. He’s in super condition. Darren Weir said when they arrived they were right to go to the races. Voodoo Lad is defying age. Bit of rain about is ideal for him.”
The Maher and David Eustace stable will saddle-up five horses who have been transferred from Weir at Caulfield on Saturday.
They are Yogi (R1, No.1), Age Of Fire (R1, No.6), Voodoo Lad (R4, No.1). Land Of Plenty (R8, No.7) and Night’s Watch (R9, No.6).
Lindsay Park’s Tom Dabernig said they were still learning about their Weir addition, Fifty Stars, who will line up in the Orr Stakes.
There are 19 former Weir-trained horses running at Caulfield and five at The Valley on Friday night. Four of the top six in betting in the Orr Stakes are ex-Weir horses.
