Caulfield tips: Our experts build a case for several runners, but one stands alone

HE’S the spruik horse of the spring and our experts seem to think we’ll see the real deal when he hits town for Caulfield Guineas Day.

Sky Racing news update

A DEEPER study of the form lines hasn’t swayed Michael Manley’s initial opinion that The Autumn Sun looks almost bulletproof if he can reproduce his last-start Golden Rose performance.

The Herald Sun’s leading tipster said there was no denying that The Autumn Sun looked the standout bet after further analysis of the 10-race program.

MELBOURNE CUP: FAVOURITE KEY TO SUPER MULTIS

Superracing’s Simon Moy is also sticking thick with his initial selections and has Voodoo Lad on top alongside Sydney star colt The Autumn Sun.

MICHAEL MANLEY’S TIPS UPDATE

THE BEST

THE AUTUMN SUN (R9, No.1)

He looks a genuine star. Flew home to win the Golden Rose Stakes at Randwick over 1400n. 1600m will suit him even better with the likelihood of good speed.

THE NEXT BEST

VOODOO LAD (R5, No.2)

Loves this track with five wins and a second from six starts. There’s going to be amazing speed in this and he’ll again be in the finish.

EL DORADO DREAMING (R6, No.1)

Finished strongly behind stablemate SMART MELODY (R6, No.5) for third in the Thousand Guineas Prelude. 1600m will suit even better.

WHISPER

LORD LANGLEY (R7, No.16)

Brother to leading Japan galloper Real Steel being by stallion sensation Deep Impact. He was competitive in Group 2 and Group 3 races early in his career in Japan. The mail is that Darren Weir has turned him around.

TAKE NOTE, PUNTERS

Some top international gallopers have had to have a name change on Saturday.

Cliff Of Moher has been changed to The Cliffsofmoher. Langley has been changed to Lord Langley.

THE ATTRACTION

Get there early to see Ciaron Maher’s two-year-old filly UTZON (R1, No.13), who is white. She’s not without ability as she won a Cranbourne trial last Monday.

SIMON MOY BACKS IN INITIAL SELECTIONS

VOODOO LAD (Race 5, No. 2)

What do they say about Voodoo Lad? Get him when he’s fresh. Back after six weeks and always runs well here. Has five wins at this distance range and drawn perfectly.

CAULFIELD GUINEAS

THE AUTUMN SUN (Race 9, No.1)

If you haven’t seen the Golden Rose win, you probably need to. Big. Worked well on Tuesday before a perfect barrier draw put the final piece of the jigsaw in place. Game on.

UNFORGOTTEN (Race 8, No. 12)

Epsom placing full of merit after she came from a long way back. Should be cherry ripe for this.

SUNLIGHT (Race 3, No.1)

A friend of mine says she should be running in The Everest. Now, that’s probably a tad ambitious, but the Tony McEvoy filly looks well placed here. Returns after a little freshener with a dominant barrier trial win under her belt. Early speed should allow her to overcome wide gate.

THOUSAND GUINEAS

SWEET MELODY (Race 6, No.2)

Just keeps winning and she’ll be the one they all have to run down. If she can absorb the extra 200m, she’ll be winning again.

FREEHEARTED (Race 4, No. 16)

Has done everything right this preparation with two wins from four starts albeit against considerably weaker class, but coming from the Darren Weir stable you just know she will be strong late. Drawn well and with genuine tempo could be knockout chance.

UTZON (Race 1, No.13)

This two-year-old filly has the potential to be the most talked about runner on Guineas Day. Even Dulux paints would be impressed with her whiter than white coat. Wide draw won’t help, but the Ciaron Maher-prepared head-turner makes her debut after a convincing Cranbourne trial win.
