Classy mare Brooklyn Hustle will be looking to bounce back in Saturday’s Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes at Caulfield after a deflating, albeit excusable, failure at The Valley last start.
The explosive mare was the subject of an enormous plunge before the Group 1 Moir Stakes, $17 into $6.50 with TAB, only to bungle the start and pull up with internal haemorrhaging and a hoof issue.
Despite the performance Brooklyn Hustle has been kept safe in the market as a firm $5.50 third favourite on Saturday behind La Mexicana ($4) and Tailleur ($4.60).
Co-trainer Dean Krongold said a return to form on Saturday will ensure the Group 1 Manikato Stakes remains on the radar.
“We have ironed out those issues she presented post-race but the reason for the good support was we were very bullish about her chances in the Moir,” Krongold said.
“It was nothing short of deflating, that's for sure.
“She had a gallop on Tuesday on the course-proper (at Caulfield) with Craig Williams in the saddle and was fantastic.
“She looks like she's back on track and hopefully she can replicate her gallop on Saturday.”
Brooklyn Hustle won the Group 2 Dane Ripper in Brisbane with Williams aboard.
The chestnut daughter of Starspangledbanner and noted backmarker will need luck at the right time to figure in the finish, with La Mexicana and Tailleur likely to sit on speed with Dirty Thoughts.
“La Mexicana looks like a progressive horse but she’s (Brooklyn Hustle) the class horse in the race,” Krongold said.
“From that draw you're forced to ride her quiet, but stepping up in trip to six furlongs (1200m), Craig Williams back in the saddle, he knows her well, there’s a few positives there.”
Brooklyn Hustle ran fourth in a blanket finish to the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield earlier in the year.
“She seems well and we have been happy with her the last week, so fingers crossed she can bounce back,” Krongold said.
