HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS

THE EARLY OIL: CAULFIELD

RACEDAY FOCUS: CAULFIELD

RACE 6: KENO BONUS HANDICAP

(1800m, Handicap, 2.45pm)

Happy to stick with MY NORDIC HERO after the Chris Waller-trained grey ended a run of near misses with victory at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. Drawn to get the run of the race, and the form behind Boom Time and Lite’n in My Veins reads well for a race like this. Ready to go on with it here. Former Perth galloper TRAP FOR FOOLS can improve sharply on his solid first run for Jarrod McLean and has a good second-up record. Darren Weir import SIXTIES GROOVE should be fitter for his past two runs and can play a leading role in this. JAMINZAH is chasing a hat-trick of wins — with his past two coming at Flemington. Other Weir hopes include PACODALI and RAW IMPULSE, while HURSLEY and QUICK DEFENCE warrant attention in an even race.

RACE 7

KENO REPLAY HANDICAP

(1400m, 3yo Handicap, 3.25pm)

USAIN BOWLER has barely put a foot wrong in four career starts, with a much deserved last start win at Moonee Valley highlighting his potential. Question mark is the rise in trip to 1400m, but this son of So You Think gives an indication it won’t be a problem. There has been strong early money for CAPTAIN HARRY and SMOOTH LANDING, which must be respected. Both rate serious chances, with the latter finishing resolutely when fifth behind Remember the Name. STREET SHEIK has been costly in recent outings, but hasn’t been far away from breaking through. Not sure GREYWORM beat much at Mornington at his only start, but looks to have some talent. SNITZIPEG, LORD SUNDOWNER, AL PASSEM and ELITE DRAKE have credentials.

TIPS

1. USAIN BOWLER

2. CAPTAIN HARRY

3. STREET SHEIK

4. SMOOTH LANDING

RACE 8

KENO SUPERPLAY HANDICAP

(1400m, Handicap, 4.05pm)

Reckon we can trim this third leg up with James Cummings’ MALAISE rating a clear top pick and one of the best of the day. The four-year-old was super when resuming at Moonee Valley and was stiff not to push Widgee Turf and Ashlor even closer with an ounce of better luck. SO POYSED might be the main danger off the back of just missing a place at Moonee Valley when finishing strongly. MR INDIVIDUAL, MY PAISANN, WENNER and RIB EYE are options if you are going wider.

TIPS

1. MALAISE

2. SO POYSED

3. MR INDIVIDUAL

4. WENNER

TAB ODDS

$3.60 MALAISE

$4.80 SO POYSED

$6 MR INDIVIDUAL

$9.50 RIB EYE

$10 MY PAISANN, WENNER

RACE 9

KENO JACKPOTS HANDICAP

(1200m, Benchmark 84, Handicap, 4.40pm)

Very tough race to come home, so it might be wise going wide here. Settled on improving Godolphin three-year-old KENNEDY, who has been gelded since his last start fifth at Canterbury in February. Has had two jump-outs ahead of this, but I’m going on his second to Siege of Quebec at Rosehill in January to note his capabilities. Might prove a horse to follow. Hard to split the others, notably WISE HERO, last start winner PRINCETON SPIRIT and the first-up CALL ME HANDSOME. ASHLOR has to be rated a chance, while wider quaddie legs could also include HIGHLAND BEAT, the well-backed CHATUCHAK and SHARING.

TIPS

1. KENNEDY

2. WISE HERO

3. CALL ME HANDSOME

4. PRINCETON SPIRIT

TAB ODDS

$3.80 KENNEDY

$7.50 WISE HERO, CALL ME HANDSOME, PRINCETON SPIRIT, CHATUCHAK, ASHLOR

$13 HIGHLAND BEAT

$18 LORD BARRINGTON

$21 SHARING
