Australia’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker Shane Warne has made his baggy green cap available for auction to raise funds for the Bushfire Appeal aiding those affected by the devastating fires across Australia.

The baggy green is a prized possession for any Test cricketer and the King of Spin’s is among the most famous in cricket. Warne wore the cap throughout his 145-match Test career for Australia in which he took 708 wickets.

The item will come with an autographed certificate of authenticity from Warne and 100 per cent of proceeds from the online auction will be donated to the Bushfire Appeal.

Warne’s incredible gesture continues the show of generosity from the Australian cricket community amid the fires raging across the country.

The bids came in thick and fast and within the first 90 minutes, the amount had soared past $100,000. Incredibly only minutes later the total was up past $200,000.

“The bushfires have been absolutely horrific, they’ve touched all of us in a way,” Warne said on Fox Cricket.

“To see the total devastation, lives have been lost, families have been lost, over 500 million wildlife has died. The stories are horrific.

“We always wore this the first session of a bowling day every time and I’ve had that baggy green cap my whole career and I’ve decided to put it up for auction.”

Australia’s fast bowlers have pledged $1000 for every wicket they take in the Sydney Test while Big Bash Stars including Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell are donating $250 per six they hit this season.

Warne joins some of Australian sport’s biggest names including Nick Kyrgios, Ashleigh Barty and Daniel Ricciardo in donating to the cause.

Only 15 minutes after the site went live and the bids came flooding in, the site crashed under the sheer weight of people attempting to get their hands on the cap.

The auction is set to run for a week with the figure set to rapidly climb and potentially go close to Sir Donald Bradman’s baggy green which fetched $425,000 in 2003.
