England taunted the Wallabies over the internal sanctioning of players Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper by calling them “f***ing snitches” during their victory at Twickenham.

England prop Kyle Sinckler sprayed the Wallabies players with the sledge early in the second half, before the home side romped to a 37-18 win after scores were level 13-all at half-time.

The incident occurred in the 41st minute after Australian lock Adam Coleman lost the ball in a tackle.

A scuffle ensued and Sinckler said to the Wallaby forwards: “Mate, you’re all f—-ing snitches anyway”.

Referee Jaco Peyper called Sinckler over and the prop relied: “It’s a man’s game, it’s a man’s game”.

Peyper told Sinckler: “There are the laws of the game and the spirit”.

Beale and Ashley-Cooper were stood down for the match after the Wallabies’ leadership group recommend they be sanctioned for bringing three women back to their hotel room in Cardiff a fortnight ago.

One of the women was Ashley-Cooper’s sister-in-law, accompanied by two of her friends, and the five had some drinks and ordered room service before the women left before midnight.

However, under the team’s internal rules, “guests” are not allowed at the team hotel and given two of the women were not related to the players, it was deemed a breach of team protocol.

Captain Michael Hooper and fellow leadership group members David Pocock, Allan Alaalatoa, Samu Kerevi and Nick Phipps learned of the incident in Italy last week, and then told coach Michael Cheika on Tuesday they wanted action taken.

Cheika dropped both veteran players for the England game, but had tried to keep it secret and explain that Beale was not selected due to form after picking his side on Thursday.

The real story emerged on Friday and the English players no doubt revelled in the drama.

Sinckler’s sledge is as cutting as you could utter to a rival, particularly those in a team environment, and there was plenty of pushing and shoving that followed immediately after and throughout the second half.

Hooper said he had not heard Sinckler’s “snitch” sledge.

“I didn’t hear that, there was a bit around the non-try but I enjoyed that, a fun part of the game,” Hooper said.

“It is a fairly strong rivalry and you want to be in those games where guys are dying to win and that was one out there today.”

Hooper said the Beale/Ashley-Cooper saga had not contributed to Australia’s loss, their sixth in a row to England.

“No, I don’t think so, we’re here to play rugby,” Hooper said.

“That is something our guys have been doing for a long time now. But it is definitely going to be a factor early on (in the week) but when you get to game day, you are zoned in, you are prepped, ready to go, 81,000 people out there and there is only one thing you are focusing on and thinking about and not the other stuff.”
