Melbourne Rebels trio Luke Jones, Mitch Inman and Jason Woodward in R7 team of the week

MELBOURNE recorded one of the biggest victories in their short history at the weekend but how many Rebels made our Super Rugby team of the week?

It was another bumper round of Super Rugby action highlighted by a couple of upsets on Friday night.

First it what was the Hurricanes’ thrilling victory over the Crusaders in Christchurch before the Rebels took another giant scalp at home in knocking off the Brumbies at AAMI Park.

But how many Hurricanes and Rebels players made our team of the week? Read on to find out!

1. Loosehead Prop – Wyatt Crocket t (Crusaders) did a mountain of work in the Crusaders’ narrow loss to the Hurricanes. Crockett made the most tackles by any prop in the round with 18 and also chipped in with four runs (14m), one offload, one tackle bust and a forced penalty.News_Rich_Media: Fox Sports rugby commentator Greg Clark reviews round seven of the Super Rugby competition.

2. Hooker – Stephen Moore (Brumbies) was another forward doing the hard yards for his team. Moore made 15 tackles, six runs (23m) and one tackle bust for the Brumbies in their loss to the Rebels.

3. Tighthead Prop – Chris King (Highlanders) was the pick of the tighthead props with his defensive effort against the Blues. King made the second most tackles by a prop in the round with 17.

4. Second Row – Willem Alberts (Sharks) excelled in the second row in his first start there since the Sharks’ 2012 final loss to the Chiefs in Waikato. Alberts made nine runs (29m), four lineout wins, one pilfer, one tackle bust and 11 tackles in his side’s win over the Waratahs.

5. Second Row - Luke Jones (Rebels) continues to impress in Super Rugby and would definitely not look out of place in a Wallabies jersey. Jones was the pick of the Rebels forwards making one linebreak, a team-high 13 runs (70m), three tackle busts, two lineout wins and seven tackles against the Brumbies.News_Rich_Media: Mitch Inman, Rob Simmons and Jason Woodward are the nominees for the Land Rover Strength of Character Award for round seven of the Super Rugby competition.

6. Blindside – Nizaam Carr (Stormers) was another strong performer in a losing side, Carr made one linebreak, four runs (33m), one offload, four tackle busts and a match-high 18 tackles against the Reds.

7. Openside – Luke Braid (Blues) continues to be one of the Blues’ best in 2014 and was a constant threat at the breakdown against the Highlanders. 8. No.8 - Nasi Manu (Highlanders) was the pick of the No.8s and beats counterpart Steven Luatua, making 10 runs (49m), one offload, three tackle busts, one lineout win and 14 tackles against the Blues

9. Halfback – TJ Perenara (Hurricanes) narrowly beats his opposite on Friday night Andrew Ellis and makes the team for the second consecutive week. Perenara scored a try, made one linebreak, one linebreak assist, seven runs (19m), four tackle busts and six tackles against the Crusaders.

10. Fly-half - Matt Toomua (Brumbies) had a strong game in a losing side for the Brumbies. Toomua set up both of the Brumbies tries as well as making two linebreak assists, one linebreak, eight runs (59m), one offload, one tackle bust and six tackles.News_Image_File: Matt Toomua (L) was a standout in a beaten side.

11. Left Winger – Julian Savea (Hurricanes) was sensational against the Crusaders and makes the team of the week alongside his partner in crime, Alapati Leiua. Savea was Fantasy rugby gold scoring one try and making three linebreaks, one try assist, one linebreak assist, eight runs (107m), one offload, seven tackle busts and two tackles.

12. Inside centre - Mitch Inman (Rebels) has been a rock for the Rebels in the midfield and scored his first try of the season in their upset win over the Brumbies. Inman made the equal most tackles on the team with 15 and also made one linebreak, seven runs (49m), one offload, and three tackle busts.

13. Outside Centre - Ryan Crotty (Crusaders) was the best of a beaten bunch in Christchurch, setting up one of the Crusaders’ three tries. Crotty also made one linebreak, eight runs (72n), two offloads, four tackle busts and six tackles.

14. Right winger – Alapati Leiua (Hurricanes) was unstoppable against the Crusaders and scored a brilliant match-winning try for the Hurricanes in beating five Crusaders players on the way to the try line. Leiua finished the match with four linebreaks, 10 runs (124m), one offload, seven tackle busts, one pilfer and five tackles.

15. Fullback – Jason Woodward (Rebels) had his best game in a Rebels jersey in their upset win over the Brumbies setting a new club record for most points in a match with 27. Woodward scored a try, made eight runs (94m), one offload, and seven tackle busts.News_Image_File: Woodward scored 27 points in a wonderful solo effort.
