BRUMBIES coach Steve Larkham said on Friday night that matchwinning flanker David Pocock would make a decision on his future in Australian rugby within a month.
The World Cup star politely declined to comment himself on this week’s revelation that he was contemplating next season off for a sabbatical in England to pursue university studies.
Heading to England is only one of a range of offers that the influential Wallaby forward would potentially have to weigh up including the outsider possibility of a Reds deal and returning to Queensland where his family still live.
The Brumbies desperately want to keep him as well.
“He’s David Pocock. No doubt he’d have offers from all over the world to weigh up,” Larkham said,
“He’s disappointed it came out the way it did (before he revealed a potential move to Brumbies teammates) but he’s a professional and it was good thing to get out on the field to play.
“Basically, David has said he hasn’t made a decision yet.”
The Brumbies showed the combinations of an experienced side last night in the convincing 31-18 trial win over the Queensland Reds at Ballymore and Pocock loomed in the outside centre channel for several big ball-carries.
“I thought it was a really good trial for us and we did find a few breaks when the good early Reds defence tired,” Larkham said.
Argentinian halfback Tomas Cubelli was impressive with a ruck-base dart for a try, several short dashes and a reliable pass.
