A “DEVASTATED” David Pocock will be sidelined for a second consecutive year after the Wallabies flanker was forced to undergo another knee reconstruction on Wednesday night.

The Brumbies star underwent the full procedure after his surgeon Dr Peter Myers determined he’d re-ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the Brumbies’ win over the Force at the weekend.

It is the cruellest of blows for Pocock, who sat out of all 2013 after first rupturing his ACL, which required surgical reconstruction and a long recovery process.

With another nine-month recovery now in line for the 24-year-old, Pocock will be sidelined for another year, and not play any further games for the Brumbies or Wallabies.

In a post on Twitter, Pocock said:

Pocock left the field in Perth after hearing a pop in his knee, and there were initial hopes he may only miss 6-8 weeks with a minor tear in the ligament.

But after an arthroscopy on Wednesday afternoon, Dr Myers determined the only course of action on the serve rupture was another full reconstruction.

Pocock is understandably shattered, having said on social media in recent days he was enjoying his rugby more than ever.

In a statement, Brumbies Director of Rugby Laurie Fisher said it was a massive blow for both the club and for Pocock.

“Having worked so hard to get himself back to peak physical condition over the last 12 months it’s impossible not to feel for David,” Fisher said.

“Only yesterday he was speaking about how much enjoyment he’d been getting out of his rugby this year, so to have him sitting out the rest of our campaign is bitterly disappointing for him and the rest of the team.

“What we must remember is that David is still young and will have more opportunities to play professional rugby in the future. Guys like Ben Mowen and Christian Lealiifano are living proof that you can make a successful comeback from a recurring injury, and I’d expect to see David bounce back in the same way.

“Professionally, David has had a big impact on the way the Brumbies have prepared and approached the 2014 Super Rugby season and I’d like to see him continue to contribute to the way the team carries itself both on and off the field.”
