TIM Roe’s Norton Summit time trial record is under threat this weekend when Tour Down Under champion Rohan Dennis leads a race against the clock in the CIC Cervelo Super Series.
The BMC star will take aim at Roe’s record of 11mins 27secs but won’t start with high expectations given he has only recently returned to training after a post-season break.
Roe won the time trial up Adelaide’s iconic climb in last year’s Cycling SA series and although it was verified by organisers it was not registered on Strava which shows Damien Howson’s 11:29 as the current fastest.
Howson, who now rides for Orica-GreenEDGE, won the time trial in 2012 and his time is yet to be surpassed on Strava.
Team Lightsview veteran and former series winner Russell Van Hout won Round 4 of the series at Victoria Park last week and Round 5 is a criterium back in the parklands Thursday night.
All the focus then turns to Sunday morning where the state’s top cyclists will tackle the 5.6km climb in a bid to be crowned king of the summit.
The time trial starts at 9am and partial road closures will be in place along Norton Summit Road which is also set to feature in next year’s Tour Down Under for the first time.
SASI’s Tom Kaesler leads the series overall from Shaun O’Callaghan and Harry Carpenter.
