RUMOUR MILL: UNITED SUPERSTAR SET TO LEAVE CLUB FOR FREE
In a damning assessment, the former Three Lions skipper, who played in the double-winning side of 1994 under Sir Alex Ferguson, warned United are going “backwards” and can no longer compete with the world’s best.
The former Inter Milan and Liverpool star told Paddy Power News: “Jose Mourinho is out of excuses – he should expect to lose his job.

“We’re three seasons into Mourinho’s reign now. There are no more excuses – you’ve spent a lot of money.
“If I was managing a team and they had given me three years, and it was clear we weren’t up to standard, I’d expect to lose my job.
“Are we getting to the stage where United just aren’t good enough? Yes – they are slipping too far behind and they can’t compete with the best sides any more.
“They are not even showing signs of improvement. In fact, they are going backwards.”
