One of the world’s hottest singers, Sabrina Carpenter, has bought into the rivalry between Australia and the US in the pool.

The Espresso singer filmed an ad for NBC’s Olympics coverage.

“What am I doing in Paris, isn’t it obvious – the Olympics,’’ said the pop star who toured Australia with Taylor Swift.

“The amazing opening ceremony on the Seine, Simone (Biles)’s epic comeback, the Australian-USA rivalry in the pool and the world’s fastest man and woman Noah (Lyles) and Sha’Carri (Richardson) racing for team USA.”

POLE DANCE GAG A SWING AND A MISS

Australia’s John Coates shocked a meeting of International Olympic Committee by walking out when pole dancing was touted as a future sport.

Coates pulled an old fashioned Aussie gee-up on his fellow delegates when someone mentioned that cheerleading could soon become an Olympic sport after being admitted to the World Games schedule for Chengu next year.

Another voice piped up with: “If cheerleading gets a go what would be next, pole-dancing?’’

With that Coates stood up and said: “I am going to have to declare my conflict of interest because Katie Coates, who is president of the International Pole Federation, is my cousin.’’

With that Coates left a silenced room behind him. He was half right. Katie Coates is IPF president but she is no relation.

“It was very funny – you should have seen their jaws drop when I left the room,’’ Coates said.

PARIS CABBIES ARE SIMPLY FLYING

It’s a bird, it’s a plane … it’s a flying cab.

France has given the go-ahead for flying cabs to appear during the Olympics, despite some authorities having deep reservations.

Commercial use has been ruled out for the half-drone, half-helicopters which carry a pilot and a passenger, but German manufacturer Volocopter have been given permission to trial their futuristic machines.

German runner Alica Schmidt has been dubbed “the world’s sexiest athlete”, and boasts a huge presence on social media.

Schmidt often attends red carpet and premiere events and posts to her 5.1m followers on Instagram and 2.1m followers on TikTok.

Last week she mingled with actors Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson, and posted about her excitement at being in the village with LeBron James, Simone Biles and Rafael Nadal.

The blonde beauty is part of the 4x400m relay team.

“My biggest dream came true!’’ she posted. “I will be in Paris, creating memories that will last a lifetime.”
