When you think of Paris tourist spots and the perfect selfie you think Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe.
But both those iconic landmarks pale in comparison to the latest selfie spot that has taken Paris by storm during the 2024 Olympic Games.
Thousands upon thousands of people are flocking to the Olympic flame near the Louvre Museum each night in a bid to capture an image of the balloon-shaped cauldron and the lit-up Eiffel Tower in the same shot.
There is barely space to walk as the crowd swells each night and people climb lightposts to gain the best vantage spots.
One visitor to the flame couldn’t believe the number of people outside the Louvre at 11pm.
“Easily more than 10,000 people out tonight trying to get their shot of the Olympic flame and Eiffel Tower in one frame,” she said.
The world was awed just days ago when the opening ceremony down the Seine culminated in the lighting of the Olympic cauldron in Jardin des Tuileries just outside the Louvre Museum.
Former French Olympian’s Marie-José Pérec and Teddy Riner stepped forward to light the cauldron before it took off into the air.
It’s no wonder thousands of people are trying to see the first-of-its-kind cauldron.
The 30m-high structure includes a 7m-diameter ring of fire that flies 60m above the ground from sunset to 2am each day.
A floating cauldron and the glowing Eiffel Tower.
The City of Lights, indeed.
