Cody Simpson pops up in iconic Paris spot at Olympics

Cody Simpson isn’t competing in Paris, but he’s been snapped enjoying a night out at one of the city’s most famous cultural experiences.

Aussie popstar-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson has been spotted taking in one of Paris’ most iconic cultural experiences while in town to support his star girlfriend.

Simpson was pictured attending the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris, in snaps posted by a fellow Australian who is a dancer in the show.

Jasmine Bard shared the images on her Instagram, showing Simpson posing for photos with the cast and fellow swimmers Bowen Gough, Cameron Usher and Matt Ferraro.

“Special guest in the audience tonight!” Ms Bard, who performed at the Games’ opening ceremony, wrote.

“So lovely to meet you guys. Hope you guys enjoyed the show.”

Bowen Gough, Cameron Usher and Matt Ferraro were also in attendance.

Simpson narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Dolphins’ Olympic squad for this Games but he has been in France supporting partner Emma McKeon.

McKeon is now Australia’s most prolific gold medal-winner, with six golds, after being part of the successful 4x100m freestyle relay team on Sunday.

Speaking on Nine’s Olympic coverage after McKeon broke Ian Thorpe’s record, Simpson expressed his deep pride in the star.

“She’ll be so humble about it. She’ll never say it herself, but it’s pretty special what she’s done,” he said.

“It’s unreal. She had a blistering swim this morning – she really wanted to be in that final and get on that podium.

“I’m so proud of her for getting that done.”

Simpson announced he would be retiring from swimming last month after the Australian Olympic trials.

It capped a remarkable transition from the musician who returned to the pool to chase his childhood dreams of being a professional swimmer.

“I left nothing to the unknown these past 4 years and I can now rest knowing I put my pedal to the floor every day and covered every other little detail to take this as far it could go and it sure went a hell of a ways,” he wrote.

“I made sure I was a gangster in my training, meticulous in my preparation and fearless in my competing every step of the way.

“I’m grateful for a huge run in the short amount of time I have been a professional athlete and I wouldn’t trade a moment.”

His journey from world-famous singer to competitive swimmer never reached an Olympic Games, but Simpson did compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He won a gold and silver medal for hear swims in two relay events and made the final of the 50m butterfly.

Simpson has revealed he will be picking the microphone back up as he reignites his music career.
