An Australian teenager has put the athletics world on notice.
Sixteen-year-old Cameron Myers delivered a performance for the ages on Thursday night when he became the second youngest person in history to break the four-minute mile.

Competing at the Maurie Plant Classic at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne, Myers scorched the track as he stopped the click in an absurd time of three minutes and 55.44 seconds.
The youngster crossed the line third behind Commonwealth Games champion Ollie Hoare and New Zealand’s Sam Tanner, but it was Myers who was the biggest talking point of the race.
His timeslots him in second all time behind Noway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen. His time however came in almost a second faster than Ingebrigsten.
The Norweigan teen become the youngest individual to break the four-minute mile mark back in 2017, registering a time of three minutes and 56.29 seconds.
It means Myers now has the fastest time ever recorded by a 16-year-old in history.

The Aussie youngster shaved an absurd 12 seconds off of his personal best time in the process
as fellow Aussie Hoare praised his feat.
“At 3:55 (Myers) is probably running at 16 years of age better than most people in college in the US,” Hoare said of his compatriot.
“It’s amazing talent for Australia moving forward and I’m excited for him. That’s why we have these meets, why we have the hype, why we have people come back, to give our youth an opportunity to run fast and compete well with some of the best. He was able to get that opportunity and he seized it.”

Today, he ran 3:55.44 for the mile at 16.
That's a new age group world record & bettered Jakob Ingebrigtsenâs previous mark of 3:56.29.
He's the second-youngest person to ever break 4 minutes for the mile.

Myers said he would have loved to have broken the age record set by Ingebrigtsen, who is the reigning 1500m Olympic Champion.
While currently studying Year 11 in Canberra, the youngster has just put his name on the global stage.
With hopes surely to rise on Australian shores he can follow in similar footsteps to the teen he just dethroned and one day sit atop the world as an Olympic Champion.
