Rohan Browning reveals ‘semi-stupid’ secret to mixing it with world’s best sprinters

Rohan Browning has cemented his status as Australia’s latest cult hero with a hilarious interview about his iconic hairstyle.

Australian sprinter Rohan Browning has cemented his status as the nation’s latest cult hero with a hilarious interview following his maiden Olympic campaign in Tokyo.

Browning made headlines on Saturday evening following a scintillating run in the men’s 100m heats, where he registered an impressive time of 10.01sec and bettered his personal best by 0.04 seconds.

The 23-year-old sped past former world champion Yohan Blake, who looked visibly shocked by the Sydneysider’s performance.

Unfortunately, Browning was slow out of the blocks in Sunday’s semi-final, crossing the line fifth and failing to progress through to the final.

But Browning’s speed wasn’t the only reason he caught the attention of sporting pundits across the globe.

The Aussie sprinter draws an uncanny resemblance to Hollywood star Zac Efron, and his iconic mullet quickly made him a fan favourite.

Speaking to Channel 7 on Monday afternoon, Browning suggested the “semi-stupid” haircut gives him a surprising advantage on the track.

“Well, yeah, I mean it’s just that typical alpha male event (the 100m sprint) I think. That’s what it’s been known for throughout history,” he said.

“There is always a lot of posturing, a lot of staring down in the cool room. I think that’s why for me having this semi-stupid haircut is almost like a bit of an advantage.

“People might look at you and not know what to think. Definitely helps to break that mould.”

However, not everyone is a fan of Browning’s hairstyle.

“It was just something that developed over time and then I trimmed the sides and grew the back, then I trimmed the sides again and didn’t trim the back. Then I trimmed the sides again and my girlfriend got a bit more irritated,” he explained.

“I think I’ve got no choice but to keep it now, guys. I think my poor mother is horrified about that because she was definitely in favour of getting rid of it.

“Look, I think I’m just enjoying having it and well I guess we are already in winter, I was going to say as the winter months approach it will come in handy.”

Browning will fly back home in the next couple of days, but the Aussie star promised he wouldn’t leave Tokyo without first enjoying some of the local delicacies.

“I don’t think there is an Asahi (beer) that is safe in Tokyo tonight,” Browning laughed.
