RIO Olympics boss Kitty Chiller believes Nick Kyrgios could live to regret his decision to make himself unavailable for the Australian Olympic team.

Chiller also scuppered claims from Kyrgios that “not one member of the AOC has reached out to me” by revealing the AOC wrote a 16-page letter to the tennis bad boy on May 30.

Last Friday morning, Kyrgios pulled out of the running for a spot at the Rio 2016 Olympics due to what he says is the Australian Olympic Committee’s (AOC) “unfair and unjust treatment” of him.

“I was surprised (by Kyrgios’ decision to withdraw) actually because contrary to what was in his statement, we had reached out to him,’’ Chiller said in Sydney on Saturday.

“He received a letter on the 30th May asking him to basically please explain his side of the story, so we had reached out to get that from him. And he chose not to respond to that and to withdraw, so it was ultimately his decision.’’

Asked if she was disappointed that Kyrgios won’t be available, Chiller said: “I’m disappointed when any athlete doesn’t understand what it means to be an Olympian.”

“I think it is something that in later years if he doesn’t get the opportunity to go to an Olympic games he will very much regret.

“I’m disappointed that an athlete of clearly so much talent and so much potential, he is incredible tennis player, I would love to see someone like that playing with the Australian Olympic crest on them, but I would also want that athlete to understand what it means and to respect the values of being Olympian means.’’
