NSW have high hopes off success on the national stage with five teams of young guns, rising stars, established names and World Cup hopefuls named to represent the state at upcoming Australian cricket championships in April.
Selectors have come up with team lists for men’s and women’s Metropolitan and ACT/NSW Country sides and a male Combined 17s side for upcoming male and female carnivals in Mackay and Adelaide in April.
With help from NSW Cricket expert Nic Bills we have identified some of the young players to watch at upcoming Australian championships below.
“We have very strong sides and I’m interested to see how our 17s side will go,’’ he said.
“On their day they will be as good, if not better, as others.
“It’s just great these nationals are going ahead.’’

Lachlan Shaw is a wicket keeper and premier batsmen in this side. Selected to play at the recent Under 19 World Cup, he also boasts “the cricket brain of a guy 10 years older’’ according to Bills.
JACK NISBET
Another young gun who made it into the Australian U19 World Cup squad. Nisbet is also on a NSW rookie contract. A big, tall, red-headed fast bowler who is hard to miss.
WILLIAM SALZMANN
Will Salzmann was also selected for the U19 World Cup and still has another year to develop in this age. A young quick from Campbelltown who runs in fast and bowls hard and is one to watch in the future.
COREY MILLER
Another young NSW cricketer who turned plenty of heads at the U19 World Cup. A reliable bat who turns out for Northern District in NSW Premier Cricket.
JOEL DAVIES
Recently played in NSW’s second X1 in Hobart which was great experience for the northern beaches talent. Like older brother Ollie he is a batter “with a whole heap of talent’’.
LIAM DODRELL
A fast bowler from Penrith who was a reserve for the U19 World Cup. Is being touted as having a big future in the game and is one of the quickest in this team.

A cricketer hailing from the Central Coast and playing second grade for Gordon. A fast bowler and under 18s player with a big future according to the experts.
ANGUS MCTAGGERT
A Newcastle cricketer recovering from an injury but selectors still hope he can make the tournament. One to look out for if he plays, McTaggert is a batting all-rounder.
CONNOR COOK
The North Coastal cricketer is an off spin bowler. Has leadership qualities that have already impressed. “He has a skill set we don’t have a lot of in NSW and is very capable with the bat,’’ said Bills.

Jake Scott halls from Wagga in the Riverina and is a big, tall batsman who bats three or four. Good at the crease and “a Matty Hayden type built’’. Can hit to all parts of the ground.
HARJAS SINGH
Harjas Singh is likely to be Konstas’ opening partner. has made multiple centuries in grade cricket and “has the ability to move the game forward’’. Can score quickly and put pressure on the opposition.
RAF MACMILLAN
A St George player who bowls good offspin and has “a very good cricket brain’’. Also has a good head on his shoulders and works hard at his game.

A NSW Breakers player with a great future in the game. The Parramatta cricketer is likely to bat in the top order at the Australian titles

One of the youngest players selected. She is an under 16s player and left arm finger spinner and lower order bat who performed well in a recent under 16s event in Albury.

A rising star from Bathurst who at just 14 was playing first grade cricket for Penrith. A Basil Sellers scholarship holder and left arm fast bowler. “An excellent athletes with a great arm.’’ Bills said.
EBONY HOSKIN
A NSW Breakers training partner and fast bowler. Bills said this Albury cricketer will open the bowling as she is the quickest in the side.
GRACE LYON
Another young gun who played in the recent under 16s tournament in Albury. A wicket keeper to keep your eye on in the future.
