Securing the future of Cronulla’s hottest young talent will be the immediate priority of the club’s new head of football, Phil Moss.

Monday Bunker - Melbourne falling off the pace?

Securing the future of Cronulla’s hottest young talent will be the immediate priority of the club’s new head of football, Phil Moss.

Moss, who boasts almost 15-years of football administration and management experience in the NRL, is set to be announced as the Sharks new general manager of football.

Currently the head of football at the Gold Coast Titans, Moss has developed contacts and relationships across the game through his previous employment in similar football management roles at Parramatta, Penrith and Wests Tigers.

The recruitment of Moss is an unwanted blow for the Titans ahead of their clash with Cronulla on Thursday night - the opening match of the Magic Round.

Following an exhaustive interview process, the Sharks board chose Moss for his experience in recruitment and retention, compliance, operational skills and focus on developing talent from within.

Moss, who is expected to start at the Sharks later this month, will be tasked with securing new contracts for their brightest young talent including Briton Nikora, Bronson Xerri and Jack Williams.

Nikora’s rookie NRL season has been nothing short of exceptional.

And despite being contracted to the Sharks until the end of 2020, the damaging backrower is on the radar of rival club’s.

The same can be said for Xerri (2021) and Williams (2020), who the Sharks are eager to keep at the club long-term.
