Scans have revealed Tom Trbojevic has uneven legs that have led to hamstring issues ruining the start of the Manly superstar’s season.

The Manly superstar is having an extended stint on the sidelines after injuring his left hamstring twice in the past three games.

While the more recent blow is different to the one he sustained in a pre-season trial which ruled him out of the first two rounds, it was enough for the NSW and Australian representative to undergo a series of tests to help determine the cause of the injury.

Trbojevic has an orthotic in his left shoe but has sent a handful of other shoes and football boots to have the small heel added to the sole of his footwear.

“It’s a completely new injury so you ask questions ‘why is this happening’,” Trbojevic said. “I did a fair few scans. They found out I have a leg length discrepancy that they will go about fixing. My left leg is a bit longer than my right.

“They put a little lift in your shoe — it’s about a centimetre … I’m wearing it now. That’s something that could help. I’m not a very flexible person either so sorting out that will help me out in the future

“I know we will get it right. I have a lot of time to sort it out.”

Trbojevic underwent a range of tests including the functional length of everything in his body and to check for any impingement of his nerves around his leg.

He was cleared of any nerve issues but the functional length test revealed a slight problem.

“I’ve never had any issues with my hamstring before so that’s why you ask questions,” Trbojevic said. “The first injury was more central, this one is a bit higher up. It’s disappointing. It shows the rehab we did last time was really good. The strength was there.

“I’m just happy with the (medical) staff. They are really on top of it all and they’ve looked at all different ways to try and fix it.

“That’s why you’re going to take that extra time to get it right. You don’t want to do it again.”

The medical staff have told Trbojevic he would miss at least eight games which will all but rule him out of Origin I. But Trbojevic could be out longer than the anticipated round 12 return date against Penrith on May 30 — just six days before the Origin opener.

“Eight weeks is what I’ve been trying to say,” Trbojevic said. “They (the medical staff) have been trying to say a bit longer. I have to find a happy medium there.

“Eight weeks will be plenty. You work with the physios. They tell me what they think. It’s not what you want. You want to be playing footy.

“It’s hard to watch. I’m really focused on getting it right now and getting back on the paddock injury free.

“It takes a lot of time before I can start going fast again.”
