South Sydney’s premiership aspirations have suffered another massive blow, this time with Tom Burgess facing a possible season-ending knee injury.
It has been revealed that Burgess suffered medial ligament damage in last week’s loss to Canterbury.
The news comes on the back of brother Sam Burgess still battling a quad injury and he is likely to miss Friday night’s blockbuster against Anthony Seibold’s Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium despite being named in the run-on side.
The Rabbitohs, who are also without the suspended George Burgess until the finals, will also face Brisbane without strike centre Braidon Burns (hamstring) while Alex Johnston (leg) is also sidelined but the fullback could return against the Warriors next week.
In what is one of the grudge matches of the season, coach Wayne Bennett will be desperate for a win over Seibold and his former club as Souths look to climb back into the top four.
