South Sydney revelation Adam Doueihi is learning from one of the best-of-the-best as he aims to make a permanent switch to fullback.

He is the South Sydney legend telling Adam Doueihi how to do it.

Retired Rabbitohs champion Greg Inglis has mentored and guided young Doueihi since the rising star shifted to fullback mid-season.

Could there possibly be a better teacher?

And Doueihi will more than likely reach out to Inglis for last-minute advice and tips ahead of Friday night’s grand final qualifier against Canberra at GIO Stadium.

“When I first moved to fullback in the middle part of the season, Greg was always getting me one-on-one after training, little insights about what he saw,” Doueihi said.

“He told me how to prepare for a couple of plays later and about anticipating where the ball was going to be.

“He’s also helped with where to position myself defensively when I put myself in the line, when to go out the back. There have been some big pressure games over the last few weeks and this will be the biggest game of my career this weekend.

“There will be pressure on me. I might give him a call during the week and maybe ask for a bit more advice and how to deal with the pressure of the week and to know my role come Friday night.

“I am pretty close to Greg. They are pretty big shoes to fill. He’s been great to me ever since I came to Souths. I have a good connection with him, a good relationship. I’ll be happy to give him a buzz later in the week.

“Greg has been a great help to me, ‘AJ’ (Alex Johnston) as well. He was fullback here for the first part of the seaso0n. In the off-season, I’d like to grab Greg for a video session with me to help me out as much as possible.”

Doueihi has grabbed and retained the No.1 jumper after shifting around the Souths’ backline over the past two years.

He has shown considerable skill and composure as he seeks to make fullback his long-term position.

“I have played a fair few positions now but I feel I have really found a home at fullback. The more games I have played there, the more confident I feel, the better positionally in attack and defence,” Doueihi said.

“I had some good touches out of yardage last weekend and I will look to get my hands on the ball more in attack this week and hopefully throw the footy around a bit more.

“I don’t know what Wayne is thinking long-term (about his position). I have been taking it week by week. He has given me the fullback spot for now and that’s where I have fitted in best. I am really and confident at fullback.”

Canberra will start $1.38 favourites, according to the TAB, with Souths the $3.10 outsiders. Doueihi warned though about dismissing Souths’ chances.

“We started the season good but faded away in the middle to latter part but we have found some form in the last month of footy,” he said.

“I guess we keep making it hard for ourselves but we are finding a way to win, which is a good trait for a team. But we will have to play better this Friday night in Canberra.”
