Jarryd Hayne says Mitchell Moses, Corey Norman and Bevan French are the stars of the show at Parra

JARRYD Hayne has conceded he’s no longer the biggest act in town at Parramatta, admitting he’s there to take more of a back seat role in his Eels comeback.

JARRYD Hayne has conceded he is no longer the superstar at Parramatta.

In a frank admission, Hayne revealed Corey Norman, Bevan French and Mitchell Moses would take over as Eels superstars in 2018.

In fact, Hayne claimed part of his job at Parramatta now consisted of “lending a hand” and “helping out” the club’s rookies.

Parramatta’s strong reliance on Hayne during his previous stint at the club between 2006 and 2014 has now evaporated. And the champion player looks relaxed, content and calm in his new role.

It was all part of coach Brad Arthur’s plan to have his entire playing group on the one level.

“The reliance (on me) has definitely gone,” Hayne said.

“The stars are ‘Normie’, Bev and Mitch — those are guys that will be starting things and finishing things off for us.

“I want to be laid back and let the young blokes like Mitch and ‘Normie’ take the glory.

“I’m excited to lend a hand to the young blokes that need it, if they need any advice to help them out.

“It’s good to now sit back and wait for opportunities. I’m looking forward to it.

“We don’t want any one individual taking over the team. We want to be collectively working together as a unit. That’s our mentality. We don’t want those one or two players that have to come up with something every single week.

“There’s no one player we’re going to rely on through the whole year. “It’s going to be tough coming back to Parra and getting back

into it. But any pressure doesn’t bother me. We’ve all got expectations on ourselves.”

Hayne conceded he was trying to dodge the spotlight and scrutiny — a difficult task given the amount of media that flocked around him.

“I’m more of a laid back person, I really don’t like it (the limelight).

“One thing I loved about the Gold Coast was that everyone was so laid back and whenever you go out, or you go to a cafe or the beach, people wouldn’t notice you,” he said.

“When in Sydney, especially around Parramatta, the fans are hectic so it is a bit different. But the Parra fans have been great, they are happy to see me back.”

Hayne is back at Parramatta after stints with the San Francisco 49ers and Gold Coast Titans. It was a return he always wanted.

“Round one will probably be the emotional side of it,” Hayne said.

“It will be a reality. It’s been great being back and putting the jersey on for the first time last week (in a trial).

“When the whistle blows, that’s when it will really sink in. “I have the memories of being a kid, growing up, and coming through here (Parramatta). That’s the biggest thing.

“Everything happens for a reason.

“The key is going away and doing what really tests you and gets you out of your comfort zone.”

Hayne played centre in the trial last week and 20 minutes at fullback. He may shift between spots throughout the season.

“That’s up to Brad — I am happy to play wherever,” Hayne said. “It will all be dependent on how we are going.”
