Eels star Dylan Brown turns to pilates to aid back issues during lockdown

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown made the most of his time during the NRL’s lockdown, turning to endless hours of pilates to work on his back problems.

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown has used pilates sessions in his lounge room to strengthen his troublesome back during the coronavirus lockdown, now he is ready for battle when the NRL competition resumes in two weeks.

In a huge boost for the unbeaten Eels, Brown declared he has overcome his back and growing pains that restricted him to 15 games last season.

And the 19-year-old Auckland-born sensation has home pilates to thank after dedicating endless hours to video sessions.

After scoring two tries in the opening two games to start the 2020 season, Brown is hoping reports of a first-round clash against Wests Tigers are confirmed as he sets his sights on taking on his hero Benji Marshall.

As revealed in The Daily Telegraph, the NRL is looking at a one-off Monday night western Sydney blockbuster between Parramatta and the Tigers as part of a five-night TV footy feast to kick-start the season restart.

This potential news is music to the ears of Brown, who is pumped at the prospect of matching up against his Kiwi idol Marshall.

“Apparently we might be playing the Tigers, which I’d be happy with,” Brown said.

“It would be good to go against Benji. It is always special to play against him when I can.

“I remember I got his book read to me when I was at school to help inspire us, so to play against him is pretty cool.

“I’ve been around him before with the Kiwis. Benji likes being around the young ones and being cheeky.”

Brown is hoping for some luck for the remainder of 2020 after injury and the coronavirus interrupted the start to his past two seasons.

“This year felt like deja vu after hurting my back at the start of 2019,” he said.

“I played the first two rounds this year and then we stopped playing with the virus, which is really annoying. But once we get back, I’m definitely going to show what I can do.”

Eels back-rower Nathan Brown is expecting big things from Parramatta’s rising Kiwi five-eighth for the rest of the season.

“He (Dylan) came back and set the world on fire,” he said.

“He has been winning all the fitness and he is strong in the gym. His work ethic has been outstanding for a young kid.
“He has got over his back injury and he is training hard. Now he has got to step up and really show what he can do.”

In other news, Nathan Brown has taken up his player option for the 2021 season.

He said he was thankful to have an option in his deal given other off-contract players facing uncertainty due to the 2021 salary cap being unknown.

“That is one of the reasons I’m grateful for taking the option up because we don’t know what is going to happen in the future,” Brown said.

“Luckily, I had that option in my favour and now I can play footy.

“We have also got a really good squad here and that is one of the reasons that I stayed.”

Brown will miss the first two rounds of the competition resumption after pleading guilty to a dangerous conduct charge against the Gold Coast back in round two in March.
