PARRAMATTA will wait until Tony Williams faces court next month on a drink- driving charge before determining a punishment for the former international star.

Williams faced court on Wednesday over the matter, after it’s understood he was charged with mid-range drink driving last month.

The matter was adjourned until February 14 to allow for the former NSW State of Origin and Kangaroos player to complete a safe driving course.

“Tony did make the club aware of the situation immediately and the NRL Integrity Unit was informed as per our normal process,” the Eels said in a statement.

“Once the legal process has been completed the club will work with Tony and his management on the relevant next steps.”

Williams signed with Parramatta over the off-season, after a pectoral injury derailed his efforts to crack into Cronulla’s first grade side in 2017.

A premiership-winner at Manly, Williams moved to Canterbury as a big-name signing in 2013 but his form dropped significantly towards the end of his stint at the Bulldogs in 2016.

The second-rower was hopeful of cracking into Parramatta’s top side at the start of the pre-season, but admitted even he was surprised he had been handed a lifeline by the club.

Statement from the Eels:

‘’Parramatta National Rugby League Club (PNRL) player Tony Williams appeared in court yesterday regarding a drink driving incident that took place last month.

‘’Tony did make the club aware of the situation immediately and the NRL Integrity Unit was informed as per our normal process. The matter was adjourned in court until February 14 to allow Tony to complete a safe driving course.

‘’Once the legal process has been completed the club will work with Tony and his management on the relevant next steps. The club will not make any further comment until the legal proceedings are concluded.’’
