Townsville kids gifted priceless memories of Johnathan Thurston

HE has millions of fans throughout the rugby league world but are you the biggest of them all? Here is your chance to prove your devotion to Johnathan Thurston is unparalleled.

FANS of Johnathan Thurston will be the first to tell you he’s a generous bloke, made obvious by the simple act of handing out his headgear to his youngest supporters after a big game.

Archer Rawnsley, Charlize Baumbach, Kasey Austin, Caleb Allan and Kylan Cutts are five of the lucky ones who were gifted a special piece of JT memorabilia over the years.

Caleb, now 11 years old and in Year 5, said he and his dad were surprised and happy when JT handed him his headgear four years ago.

“It was when I was in Year 1, and he gave it to me at a Cowboys v Sharks game,” he said.

“I wasn’t sure what to do, he gave it to me and I thought ‘what do I do with this?!’.

“My favourite thing about JT is that he’s really nice and always has time for his fans.”

The budding footballer and soccer player said he was excited but sad to head to the stadium tonight for JT’s last Townsville game.

“He’s one of the best players ever, he’s really good and can make a play out of anything,” he said.

“Whenever I play football I think of JT and what he would do.”
