The Brisbane Broncos player at the centre of a domestic violence investigation has reportedly been cleared by police.
The Broncos were last month blindsided by reports one of the NRL club’s players had been questioned after police responded to an alleged domestic disturbance on Brisbane’s southside on Sunday, July 28.
The player was not arrested or charged and police said investigations were ongoing.
This masthead opted not to name the player involved in the investigation.
It is understood police have since indicated to the player that they do not intend to pursue charges.
The NRL was notified of the matter by the Broncos, but the player was not stood down under the game’s No Fault Stand Down policy given he had not been charged.
As it stands, the player continues to be available for selection in NRL fixtures but the game’s Integrity Unit could issue further sanctions pending the outcome of its own investigation.
Queensland Police would not confirm any details of the matter other than to say “Investigations into this matter are ongoing”.
The Broncos are in the midst of a turbulent phase as they push to play finals football in 2024.
After losing eight from nine matches, the Broncos bounced back to form with a season-saving 42-18 win against the Cowboys a fortnight ago.
They then enjoyed a bye last weekend and are sitting 10th on the ladder with three rounds to go.
As it stands, the Broncos still have a mathematical chance of finishing in the top eight if they continue to win and a number of results in other matches fall their way over the next few weeks.
They return to the field against cellar dwellers Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night and must beat the Eels to remain in finals contention.
The Broncos finish the regular season with games against the Dolphins and Storm at Suncorp.
