Rugby Australia is ramping up its bid to sign more NRL stars, and the Sydney Roosters won’t stand in the way of Angus Crichton making the move to the 15-man game.

Sydney Roosters star and former Blues State of Origin forward Angus Crichton is mulling over a two-year offer from rugby union worth $1.6 million.

It would mean Crichton leaving Sydney to play for the Western Force, who have made an official offer to his manager David Rawlings in recent days.

This masthead first revealed details of rugby union’s interest in Crichton three weeks ago.

They are desperate to rebuild from the World Cup disaster before the British Lions tour in two years and then the World Cup in 2027.

Rugby boss Hamish McLennan is on record as saying his struggling code is looking for more NRL players to boost a code that’s at an all-time low.

“We just need to invest in more players,” he said.

“Imagine if we had five more Joseph Suaalii’s in the squad.”

This masthead understands the Sydney Roosters will not stand in Crichton’s way.

Crichton, 27, was an Australian schoolboy’s rugby star before joining the Rabbitohs and then Roosters in the NRL.

He played for the Kangaroos at last year’s World Cup but has struggled to recapture his best form since being diagnosed with bi-polar earlier this yeat.

His departure will ease pressure on the Roosters salary cap and increase speculation of their interest in signing South Sydney Rabbitohs edge forward Keaon Koloamatangi from 2025.

The Roosters will also need to upgrade 20-year-old Siua Wong, who emerged this year as such an exciting prospect.
