NRL SuperCoach: Six things we learned from Warriors vs Roosters, Broncos vs Cowboys

Adam Reynolds is ageless, Payne Haas showed why he is a must-own and it’s time for a serious discussion about the cheapies. Here are the six things we learned from Friday Night Footy.

Radley leaves after another head knock

Friday Night Footy is in the books with a pair of relatively low-scoring encounters.

The Warriors and Roosters engaged in a real arm-wrestle before the former managed to kick clear, while the Broncos had to do it the hard way against a desperate Cowboys side.

Scores aren’t what matters though - SuperCoach is what counts. These are the six things we learned from a big night of footy.

SUPERCOACH IS UNPREDICTABLE

As cliche as it sounds, sometimes it’s impossible to predict how things will pan out.

Who in their right mind would predict Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf would go 12-117-21 in the space of three rounds?

It boggles the mind. It makes my brain hurt just thinking about it.

It’s the sort of thing you leave until Tuesday to determine whether he remains in your team or gets the chop.

MID-RANGE TO THE RESCUE

Naufahu Whyte is enjoying a brilliant start to the SuperCoach season with the top Roosters score of 81 points.

It’s no surprise that he’s set for a price rise next week – and it raises the debate of how many front rowers are worth the premium price tag.

On the flip side, Mitch Barnett amassed a respectable 54 – but with a cost of $661,000, owners are waiting for a breakout score.

TOUGH CONVERSATION

Sandon Smith produced the lowest score of all starters with just 15 points

A solid opening two rounds ensures a big price boost, but will that be where he and SuperCoaches bid farewell to each other?

Games against the Titans and Rabbitohs in the coming weeks might tempt owners to hang on just a little bit longer.

PROVEN PERFORMER

Sometimes in SuperCoach there is no need to overthink things.

If the player looks good, put the player into your team.

Payne Haas has been Mr Reliable for a number of years now and his monster score of 132 will ensure that those who don’t already have him in their sides will by the time round four rolls around.

LOYALTY PAYS OFF

An average of 32 from the opening two rounds tested the loyalty of Jaxon Purdue owners.

13,503 SuperCoaches traded him out coming into the weekend, but for the 84,000+ who stuck with him, they were rewarded with a good score of 64.

Yes a fluky try towards the end of the game contributed to that, but let’s enjoy the win for the night.

OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS

Cue the comparisons of Adam Reynolds and a tempranillo. He just gets better as the years go on.

He was the man at the back end of the first half to get the Broncos ahead and he registered 119 SuperCoach points, the second time he has cracked the ton this year.

Forget about the Cleary vs Hynes debate, Reynolds is turning it into a triple threat match.
