NRL round 10: Ryan Papenhuyzen’s all-time SC game, Manly v Cronulla, live scores, updates, SuperCoach analysis
What to do if you don’t own Ryan Papenhuyzen, are there any good cheapie options and is it time to trade in Turbo? All those questions answered – and more – following the end of round 10 in the NRL.
Half of SuperCoach players don’t own Ryan Papenhuyzen.
On Sunday, he showed why they might reconsider that choice.
Papenhuyzen scored four tries and kicked 10 goals (34 points) in the Storm’s 64-0 thrashing of the Tigers, racking up 176 SuperCoach points in the process.
It’s a massive performance as Origin looms and big decisions await SuperCoaches with the major byes just around the corner.
The Storm’s thrashing of the Tigers will send several Storm players’ prices to the moon (and make a few Tigers bargain buys – if you dare) while a strong Sharks display has a few who might consider returning to former Dally M winner Nicho Hynes.
PAPI PARTY
Ryan Papenhuyzen was captained by almost 20 per cent of SuperCoach players, and almost certainly turned a few head to head losses into wins on the back of his monstrous Mother’s Day score.
Of the Storm fullback’s 176 SC points, 108 points came from tries and conversions, but he was still plenty busy in play as the Storm fired on all cylinders.
Four Storm players – Papenhuyzen, Cam Munster, Xavier Coates, and Jahrome Hughes – all tonned up in the thrashing.
Papenhuyzen’s already in 48 per cent of SuperCoach teams, and while his price will skyrocket, that number should climb.
But the timing of his best output of the season only throws another spanner into the works with the State of Origin opener in two weeks.
He’s regarded as a quality fullback to own through the Origin period, regardless of his selection, and his ballooning price may mean a few players will have to start shuffling the decks.
GARLICK A TARGET?
Is Bronson Garlick a somewhat risky cheapie target?
He may not hold onto the “cheapie” tag by definition after his 93-point outing – with a BE of 19, his $291,900 price tag should go up a far way.
But he could be handy to consider.
He’s a dual position HOK | 2RF who is wearing the No.9 for Melbourne in Harry Grant’s absence, and he’ll get some game time over the next few weeks.
MAY’S DAY
Terrell May is in 60 per cent of SuperCoach teams but his performance against the Storm indicates he might be under owned.
That seems absurd, but he cranked out a 70 despite the Tigers not posing much of a threat. He outscored his nearest teammate by more than 20 points.
He made a staggering 50 tackles, ran the ball 12 times for 85m and broke two tackles.
The Tigers’ form may fluctuate, but May is as consistent as they come.
HYNES’ SIGHT
Nicho Hynes has confirmed he is, in fact, back with another strong SuperCoach outing.
He laid on a few tries, got through plenty of tackles and converted every shot at goal on his way to 91 – and while his price goes up, he’s still cheap enough to consider bringing in.
He surely won’t play Origin, and while there’s a few tricky fixtures coming up – Storm then the Roosters – his fingerprints will be all over any success.
ROCKS AND DIAMONDS
Two flashy outside backs bagged doubles but Ronaldo Mulitalo and Tolutau Koula may be too reliant on attacking stats to be worth a look in SuperCoach.
Ronaldo Mulitalo’s 72 looks good to the 7,109 teams he’s in, but half of that came from his tries, the second of which iced the contest.
Two tries in seven minutes brought Tolutau Koula Manly back into the game and, for just 3 per cent of SuperCoaches, a decent return of 85.
NOT TURBO TIME YET
A tip of the hat to the 483 SuperCoaches who took a chance and traded in Tom Trbojevic this week.
The Sunday timeslot at Brookie is traditionally Turbo’s time to shine, but it didn’t quite happen this week as he topped out at just 40.
Trbojevic, while solid in his position, seemed to miss that speed and extra zip that has made him such a tackle-breaking threat.
His price is on the way down so he might be one for the watch list for later.
