NRL SuperCoach: Latrell Mitchell smashes century, 10 SC Winners and Losers from Eels vs Souths

Latrell Mitchell continued his red-hot SuperCoach form as one of two South Sydney players to crack the magical century mark. See the 10 SuperCoach Winners and Losers from Eels vs Rabbitohs.

Bizarre clauses as Parramatta in decline

Parramatta had plenty of chances, but their inability to take them saw South Sydney continue its run of form.

They’ve gone from last to 13th to keep their very slim hopes of making the top eight alive.

As for the Eels, they slip back to last position and will finish the round there unless the Storm take down the Tigers by six or more points.

It was a big night for SuperCoaches with a number of big names firing. See who did and didn’t in our Winners and Losers from Thursday night footy.

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Latrell Mitchell (121) - Another starring performance from Latrell. You could tell he was on from the opening whistle and he has rewarded owners once again.

2. Jacob Gagai (104) - Smashed his predicted score of 26 on the back of two tries and a few nice trysaving tackles as well.

3. Keaon Koloamatangi (80) - Held his position in the middle and posted another strong score. Will he stay there? If so he’s a definite buy if you don’t have him.

4. Blaize Talagi (71) - With the tryscoring form he’s in, you’d be mad to sell him. Has been one of the buys of the year and continues to deliver.

5. Jack Wighton (79) - A late try helped to boost his score, but it was another good outing since he’s made the move to five-eighth.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Mitchell Moses (26) - After a big Origin performance, Moses came crashing back to earth and was sent to the sin bin in the closing stages to further dent his score.

2. Alex Johnston (24) - The Rabbitohs centred their attack around the right-hand side and that meant limited opportunities for AJ.

3. Junior Paulo (15) - Went off with an injury and saw limited time. Hoping it’s nothing too serious for the international forward.

4. Sean Russell (22) - He found the going really tough. A few ordinary decisions stopped him from having a great night.

5. Matt Arthur (10) - Played just the 18 minutes off the bench as Parramatta’s use of their dummy halves throughout 2024 continues to amaze.

FULL-TIME - Rabbitohs 32-16

Richie Kennar is lucky to avoid time in the sin bin after taking out Matt Doorey on a kick chase near the line.

In a sense of karma, Bryce Cartwright scores on the next set after getting on the end of a Clint Gutherson grubber.

Mitchell Moses is sent to the sin bin after refusing to let a player go. He thought he had a challenge, but alas they blew it in the opening 10 minutes.

Jack Wighton seals the win with a nice stepping effort close to the line to extend the win streak to five.

70th minute - Rabbitohs 26-10

Jake Tago is a fibber on debut.

He took possession and headed for the corner, but the tackle from Jacob Gagai forces him over the sideline, forcing the Bunker to intervene.

The Bunker fails to intervene on an obvious high shot on Sean Keppie.

It matters little as Souths extend their margin with a shift to the right, as Latrell Mitchell puts a pass onto the chest of Gagai and he produces a spectacular dive to touch down in the corner.

60th minute - Rabbitohs 20-10

A rare try from Reagan Campbell-Gillard comes at a crucial time for Parramatta as he reaches out and scores.

It gets them right back into the game with plenty of time to go.

They’ve come out of the sheds with a fresh energy and you get the feeling a comeback is well and truly on the cards.

The comeback hits a slight speed bump however, with an Eels error gifting the Rabbitohs territory, and Latrell Mitchell capitalises with a sliding try in the corner.

50th minute - Rabbitohs 16-4

You’d be forgiven for thinking that we’ve changed venues.

The two sides came out for the second half to an avalanche of rain. The rain in Sydney is never ending at the moment.

Another brilliant trysaver from the Rabbitohs, this time from Alex Johnston, holds the Eels out again.

Junior Paulo has come from the field with a foot injury and it’s unclear if he’ll return tonight.

HALFTIME - Rabbitohs 16-4

They’ve had no territory, but some great passing gives the Rabbitohs another try.

Keaon Koloamatangi gets a great offload away to Michael Chee Kam, who passes overhead to Jacob Gagai, who in turn sprints down the sideline and throws a great ball inside for Jack Wighton to score.

Parramatta gets one back after a break through the middle.

Souths was caught short out wide and a nice right-foot step from Blaize Talagi sees him continue his hot scoring streak.

Another Chee Kam offload comes up trumps for Souths. He gets the ball away to Cody Walker who scores with the final play of the half.

30th minute - Rabbitohs 4-0

The Rabbitohs looked destined to extend their lead with Cody Walker approaching the line.

He was ruled to have fumbled the ball, even though it looked to have gone backwards.

Parramatta is getting every opportunity to break their duck - they’re on the right side of a 5-1 penalty count and 2-1 set restart count.

A nice grubber from Dylan Brown forced Latrell Mitchell into action, needing to kick the ball dead to avoid conceding points.

Charlie Guymer is on the field for his NRL debut.

20th minute - Rabbitohs 4-0

Five sets in a row for the Eels deep in Rabbitohs territory and they can’t do a thing with it.

A couple of dropped balls from Souths mixed in with a few penalties gave the Eels a perfect chance to hit back, but they fail to fire.

Souths are showing they’re prepared to throw offloads in their own half, and it’s making for entertaining footy.

10th minute - Rabbitohs 4-0

It’s been a pretty sloppy period from both sides after they went set-for-set early.

A bit of dew at CommBank Stadium is proving a thorn in the side of both teams.

Parramatta’s challenge is gone after a baffling objection to a Bryce Cartwright error.

Another error from Cartwright gifts Souths a set on Parramatta’s goal line, and they need just one play from the scrum with Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell combining nicely to set Jacob Gagai up for an easy try.

7.50PM: We are off and running in round 18 with Parramatta and South Sydney.

Who will take it out?

7.20PM: Choose your fighters - King Gutho and Mitchell Moses or Latrell and Cody Walker.

Victory for either side will largely come down to how these key men perform for their side tonight.

Gutherson (FLB $582,600) scored just 25 points when these sides met last year as the Eels thumped the Rabbitohs, although on the flipside Moses (HFB $686,800) scored a whopping 130 in the same fixture.

Mitchell (FLB $870,200) is coming off a great Origin outing and has only scored below 80 once in his last five outings (70 vs Dragons).

Walker (5/8/HFB $641,100) was recently given dual-position and he’s another Rabbitoh that has found his best form of late.

6.50PM: Both Parramatta and South Sydney have kept their 17 intact for an intriguing clash to kick off round 18.

The Eels have named two debutants in Jake Tago (CTW $204,300) and Charlie Guymer (2RF $204,300) with plenty of injuries across the board.

Interim coach Trent Barrett has made the one tactical change, with Joe Ofahengaue (2RF/FRF $379,400) moving to the starting prop role and Junior Paulo (FRF $547,300) dropping back to the bench.

EARLIER: It may be 14th vs 16th on the NRL ladder but Thursday night’s Eels v Rabbitohs match features a host of SuperCoach studs.

The Rabbitohs in particular are very useful for SuperCoach given they have finished all byes for the year.

Meanwhile, the Eels also have a decent draw, covering the next big bye in round 19 and with only one bye left in round 20.

Eels versus Rabbitohs will kick off round 18 action.
Eels versus Rabbitohs will kick off round 18 action.

Players to watch out for include:

* Damien Cook - The injury to Jeremy Marshall-King (and to a lesser extent Harry Grant) leaves many looking for a hooker and Cook is the pick of the bunch. After a lean start to the season Cook has hit his straps and has a 5RA of 89.8PPG. Headed to the Dragons next year Cook clearly has a point to prove and he’s back to his sniping best.

* Blaize Talagi - The popular cheapie won dual position status this week with FLB added to CTW and he covers the next big bye.

* Cody Walker - Also won dual position status this week and could be a crucial factor over the remaining rounds given the Rabbitohs have no byes left.

* Dylan Brown - 35% of teams are hoping for a big showing from the Eels playmaker.

* J’Maine Hopgood - Out for the season and therefore a popular sell this week.
