Storm‘s Dale Finucane set to miss NSW Blues Origin selection again

He’s been on the verge of a dream State of Origin call-up for years, and while he looks set to miss out again Craig Bellamy has implored NSW selectors to select Storm’s workhorse lock.

Unsung Storm premiership lock Dale Finucane has again missed out on NSW Origin selection.

But Finucane could be named in an extended squad tonight in Sydney as injury cover for Game I at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on June 5.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy implored the Blues to pick Finucane.

“I can’t see how they can leave him out,” Bellamy said.

“I’ll be very disappointed for him if he doesn’t get picked.”

Finucane, 27, is on track for a career-best year at Storm, averaging 115m and 31.7 tackles.

The tireless lock has also busted 18 tackles in 10 games — up from 10 last year in 18 games. He starred last week against Wests Tigers with 162m.

Unlike some previous seasons, Blues selectors have not contacted Bellamy this season.

“The big part about Dale is he’s one of the best clubmen I’ve ever coached,” Bellamy said.

“Whatever the team needs him to do he’s only too happy to do it.

“I’d certainly have him in there if I had anything to do it.”

Storm will boast four Origin starters in NSW speedster Josh Addo-Carr and Queenslanders Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi and Will Chambers.
