States exchange early blows in WSOO

Eye-gouge allegation, accidental hair pulls, big hits and HIAs across the field - the opening game of the women’s State of Origin had absolutely everything.

But it was NSW who tamed the madness to take an important lead going into Game II.

GAME 1 PLAYER RATINGS

QUEENSLAND MAROONS

1. TAMIKA UPTON: 7

Kept quieter than her usual self in attack but wasn’t given much space, and still managed some try-saving moments in defence.

2. JULIA ROBINSON: 6

The aggressive winger had her hands full containing Jaime Chapman but found some space through the middle on kick returns.

3. SHENAE CIESIOLKA: 5.5

Shifted out to the wing in the second half and held on for dear life with the NSW left edge running riot.

4. RORY OWEN: 6

Had some wobbly moments, but looked at home at this level. Somehow making a habit of scoring on debut at Suncorp Stadium.

Rory Owen try for Qld.

5. JASMINE PETERS: 3

Rough old debut for the Cowboys winger, ruled out at halftime with a head injury.

Schemed and probed to give Queensland a chance. Always stands up in big games but wasn’t given enough time or space to execute.

7. ALI BRIGGINSHAW: 4.5

Not the best performance from the veteran Maroons skipper who was kept quiet by the ruthless Blues defence.

A high energy game from the Titans forward, who made a game-high 35 tackles and a try as a reward.

Sienna Lofipo try for Qld

INTERCHANGE
