State of Origin teams 2026: Who will make the QLD and NSW teams in five years?

Distancing themselves from the disastrous 2021 Origin series, the Maroons can at least be assured the next generation will be a different beast. Nick Campton looks at the future stars.

It was a damning 2021 Origin series defeat, but there are signs of promise for the Maroons further down the road with the nucleus of a strong squad.

Reece Walsh, who was a late withdrawal with a hamstring, looks well ahead of his time despite missing his Origin debut.

The likes of Cam Munster, Kalyn Ponga and David Fifita will provide experience for Queensland as young guns Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Brendan Piakura and Jack Howarth make their mark.

The Daily Telegraph reveals the stars from Queensland and NSW who will lead the way for the next generation of interstate battles, by naming the potential Origin teams of 2026.

For the Blues, Canterbury-bound Matt Burton is set to reunite in five years time with Penrith teammate Nathan Cleary in the halves, while Joseph Suaalii and Bradman Beat will establish themselves as Origin mainstays.
