Parramatta winger Blake Ferguson is unlikely to play next week as he continues to battle an untimely knee infection.
Eels coach Brad Arthur revealed on Sunday night that his NSW Origin star, who is still in hospital, would likely miss another week after undergoing minor knee surgery.
Speaking prior to Sunday afternoon’s match against Manly, Arthur said the 29-year-old had suffered an infection in the joint and would be rested after receiving a “clean out”.
However, it now appears Ferguson will also be out for Saturday afternoon’s clash with the New Zealand Warriors at Bankwest Stadium.
“He’s got an infection so I doubt he’ll play next week,” Arthur said.
“He’s in hospital at the moment trying to get on top of that. But he won’t play next week.”
Asked if his side had missed Ferguson in the Sea Eagles thumping, he added: “We do, but he’s not going to make the tackles in the middle.
“We got to be able to bounce back. We’ve got enough players there to do a job.”
The Eels have rookie Ethan Parry at their disposal, while midseason pickup Waqa Blake is expected to be available to make his Parramatta debut after leaving rivals Penrith last month.
