Police have launched an investigation into deep fake images circulating online of NSW Origin star Jaime Chapman.
The NRL Integrity Unit and NSW Police are working collaboratively after the Gold Coast Titans NRLW player became embroiled in an artificial intelligence scandal.
One of the game’s best female players, Chapman took to social media on Monday to slam doctored images of her.
The AI-generated image took a photograph of Chapman in a bikini and was edited to make her appear nude.
Chapman is currently preparing for Thursday night’s second women’s Origin clash at Allianz Stadium.
The Titans confirmed police had been called into the matter.
“Jaime is an incredible role model for not just our club, but for the game as a whole,” Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said.
“Not only is she a star on the field with the Titans and the Blues, but her continued work in the community is exemplary as she continues to inspire young girls of all ages on and off the field.
“It’s hugely disappointing to see her victimised in this way and we will continue to support Jaime and work with the NRL and authorities on this matter.
“We will always stand up to online bullying and the creation of such defamatory false content that Jaime has been subjected to, and I wholeheartedly join with her in condemning those who have produced such vile material.”
Chapman, partner of Dolphins and Queensland star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, posted a missive on social media suggesting it wasn’t the first time she had been targeted.
Chapman posted the original image - which was subsequently doctored - alongside a photo of the beach on her Instagram account.
She wrote: “Next time think of how damaging this can be to someone and their loved ones.
This has happened a few times now and it needs to stop.”
Chapman is one of the biggest stars in the NRLW, having spent the past three seasons with the Gold Coast.
She has made five appearances apiece for NSW and Australia, and was a member of the Blues squad that opened the Origin series with a win over Queensland at Suncorp Stadium earlier this month.
She has been in a relationship with Tabuai-Fidow since late last year.
“Have a good day to everyone except those who make fake ai photos of other people,” she wrote.
