The first all-Victorian NRL Schoolboy Cup match of the year will be live streamed exclusively for all Herald Sun/Daily Telegraph digital subscribers from 12pm Thursday.

Coach of the Mount Ridley side, Hamish Pearce, who has helped get the school to this level said the students are looking forward to getting on the field at Anderson Reserve.

“They were itching last year, and they are itching again this year,” Pearce said. “It’s a matter of just getting to play some footy, it’s been so disruptive for the last two years.”

Fa’alogo (18), is one of the state’s best young rugby league prodigies.

He recently signed with the Melbourne Storm until the end of 2024 and currently plays fullback for the Victorian Thunderbolts (Melbourne’s U21 side.)

Pearce also expects Harry Sio, a strong forward who plays in the Thunderbolts SG Ball side to impress on his Schoolboy Cup debut.

Prop forwards Sheldon Diaz and Mikey Mailealaa will front the Hallam Senior College pack in their return to the competition.

Diaz is also a member of the Thunderbolts SG Ball side and will pair with Mailealaa.

Hallam coach, Jamie Fardell predicts his forwards will play a big role.

“I think the front row is going to the be the key,” Fardell said. “They’ll (Diaz and Mailealaa) be the big strike force along with our lock John Faoa-Palalagi.”

The Hallam college has a strong history of producing NRL players, with past students including Kenny Bromwich currently at the Storm and Rhys Kennedy at the Brisbane Broncos.

Hallam has played in the last five NRL Schoolboy Cup competitions and although

they lost to newcomers Mount Ridley in a recent nine’s tournament Fardell says his team is looking forward to the match.

“It was a pretty close contest between the two of us,” he said. “We haven’t really played each other at this level before, this is our first big encounter.”

They’re very excited, there’s been no community sport here for the last few weeks so they’re itching to get into it”.
