Brisbane winger Oates and Melbourne forward Sims are the highest profile players yet to secure their futures for next season. Oates, who was overlooked by Broncos coach Kevin Walters for the club’s finals campaign, has an opportunity to stay at Brisbane next season on a cut-price deal.
However, there has also been interest from elsewhere and Oates is expected to take some time to decide his future as he exhausts his options with the Broncos.
Sims is in a similar boat. It is understood he wants to stay at the Storm but the club is still in the process of finalising their roster and are yet to determine whether Sims is part of their future.
He has an insurance policy – it is understood Super League clubs are ready to come to the table should Sims decide to head to England.
Cowboys veteran McLean is also weighing up whether to extend his stay at North Queensland for another season after being offered a one-year deal for 2024.
