Monday Buzz: Phil Rothfield reveals his highlights and lowlights from the week in sport

Cronulla’s recent $5 million cash injection has Phil Rothfield asking for the return of famed Shire institution, King Wan Chinese restaurant. Buzz’s highlights and lowlights.

Phil Rothfield reveals his highlights and lowlights in his Monday Buzz column, igniting calls for the return of famed Shire institution King Wan Chinese restaurant.

RAH RAH RAID

We told you last week how one NRL club was chasing a Wallaby player from last year’s World Cup. We can now reveal coach Shane Flanagan plans to meet with Queensland Reds player Jordan Petaia. The 24-year-old plays centre, wing or fullback. He’s off contract at the end of the season.

HIGHLIGHT

St George Illawarra’s super impressive victory over the Titans and an outstanding contribution from Canterbury reject Raymond Faitala-Mariner with seven tackle busts and three offloads. It’s early days but this side will finish a lot higher on the ladder than most expected. For an unhappy player, Zac Lomax (255 metres) was also magnificent.

HIGHLIGHT II

How wonderful that the Sharks have found a $5 million benefactor in New York. Now bring back the King Wan and the best sweet and sour pork on planet earth.

LOWLIGHT

The Bulldogs. Hugely disappointing against the Eels. Have spent a stack of money on Stephen Crichton, Billy Kikau, Matt Burton and Reed Mahoney but lack quality in the spine. Need a halfback, a front-rower and a fullback – but don’t have the money. Not one forward made more than 86 metres.

SPOTTED

The Roosters held their junior league registration day on Saturday and it was so good to see Angus Crichton, Millie Boyle and Jess Sergis at the local grounds doing coaching clinics and encouraging kids to sign up. Fox Sports star Lara Pitt was there to register her three boys.

SPOTTED II

We love a comeback story. Bryce Cartwright’s career was on the scrap heap after a disastrous few years at the Titans. On Saturday against the Dogs, he was almost the best player on the park for the Eels. He is such a skilful player.
