Ex-Storm centre Will Chambers joins Sharks for the rest of 2021

Former Storm and Queensland Origin star Will Chambers has joined the Cronulla Sharks for the remainder of the 2021 NRL season.

Chambers is back in the NRL.

Premiership winning Melbourne Storm centre Will Chambers has joined the Cronulla Sharks for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Chambers chalked up 218 NRL games during his two stints with the Storm, each of which was cut short by moves to rugby union.

The former Queensland Origin and Australia star announced his return to the NRL on Monday, having left the competition in 2019 to take up an opportunity with Japanese rugby side, the Suntory Sungoliath.

“It’s a bit different, it’s all a bit new at the moment, I’m taking it all in, getting to know the boys,” Chambers said after his first training session at the Sharks.

“Exciting times ahead, I look forward to fitting in and to being a part of something special this year. I’m excited about pulling on the Sharks jersey and being a part of this special organisation, an organisation that’s very tough and very competitive.”

Chambers will add experience to Cronulla’s roster of outside backs, which boasts exciting youngsters including Mawene Hiroti, Ronaldo Mulitalo and Jesse Ramien.

With Mulitalo out of the side with a knee injury until at least round nine, Chambers is a chance to line up for the Sharks against the beleaguered Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

Chambers won a premiership at Melbourne in 2012 and was also part of the Storm side that lost to the Sharks in the 2016 grand final.

Chambers will join the three Sharks from that team who remain at the club — Wade Graham, Andrew Fifita and Chad Townsend — as he makes a home for himself at the Sutherland shire outfit.

“I’m competitive and I’d like to bring that here to the Sharks. And there’s some special young boys here at the moment and I’d love to see them succeed,” he said.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play in a special system down in Melbourne and I’d love to bring some of that experience here to Cronulla.”
